| Technology: | A novel mixing enhancement method exploits a previously unknown flow instability to enhance mixing in a compressible jet flow or in a flow (gaseous of liquid) in contact with the compressible jet flow. No mechanical mixers and no actuators of any kind are used. Nozzle shapes are streamlined and simple. The invention is expected to impact the state of the art in many applications, including fuel injectors, reduction of thermal emissions from aircraft engines, jet noise suppression, supersonic combustion, materials processing, ejector pumps, and chemical lasers. |
