Title: A New Process Of Adding Alkyl Groups To Organic Substrates Using TmI2(MeOCH2CH2OMe)3
UC Case No: 2000-020-2-ott
Categories: Veterinary: Animal Health
Chemical: Compositions, Processes
Pharmaceuticals: Antimicrobials, Antivirals, Vaccines
Biotechnology: Drug Delivery, Drug Production and Design, Genomics and Proteomics, Protein Folding and Interactions, Synthesis and Purification
Background: In the pharmaceutical industry, synthetic chemists often alkylate starting compounds to generate compounds that have more desirable properties. However, the current reagents used in this modification process can be expensive or harmful to the chemist.
Technology: Researchers at the University of California, Irvine, have discovered a compound that allows a variety of important chemical transformations to be accomplished using cheaper materials and eliminates the use of some carcinogenic reagents in the currently used systems.
Application: This reagent could be of great use in the pharmaceutical, chemical, and agricultural industries that make fine organic chemicals.
