On-Line Research Tutorials

Welcome to the On-Line UCI Research Tutorials website. These tutorials review core concepts for the responsible conduct of research involving human research participants and animals. Each tutorial guides users through the major principles for conducting research in a way that is consistent with federal and University requirements and with accepted scientific standards.

Please read the following information carefully to assure the required UCI tutorials are completed.

The following tutorials are available:
  • Animal Care & Use Tutorial (required for IACUC protocols)
  • HIPAA Research Tutorial (required for IRB protocols involving PHI)
  • Human Research Tutorial (required for IRB Protocols)
All UCI employees (faculty, staff) and students (undergraduates, graduates, UNEX) must take the applicable UCI tutorials for credit by using their UCINetID and password to log-in.

IRB Protocols: Non-UCI affiliated study team members working on UCI IRB protocols may take the UCI Human Research Tutorial or submit verification of human subject research training from their own institution. Note: guest UCINetIDs are no longer required to take UCI Human Research Tutorial.

IACUC Protocols: Non-UCI affiliated study team members working on UCI IACUC protocols must take the UCI Animal Care and Use Tutorial. Note: guest UCINetIDs are no longer required to take the UCI Animal Care and Use Tutorial.

Yes, I will take the tutorial for credit.

No, I want to take the tutorial as a visitor.

Additional notes:
  • If an outside institution has asked you to complete a UCI tutorial, you should take the tutorial as a visitor. Upon completion of the tutorial, a congratulations message will appear indicating that you have completed the tutorial as a visitor. You should print this for verification of tutorial completion if it is required by your institution.
